Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. - John 14:27
I believe that the image one holds of Christ is a very personal thing, and I take a great deal of personal responsibility in painting the Savior—my Savior. I wanted to convey in this painting both His strength and His sensitivity: His ability to go through everything that He did for us and yet remain sensitive and caring enough to recognize and heal so much pain and hurt. I wanted to capture the gentleness in His eyes, the strength in His chin, a determination and willingness to be strong—for us. The red in His robe is symbolic of His sacrifice and regal divinity. I wanted to paint this picture without a background or anything else that would distract from His features and His countenance.
